Few offices celebrate their forty years of existence while looking forward to thirty more. Longevity has its benefits beyond the collective experience of years and the diversity of people who join our office as employees or associates. It allows one to understand the transient nature of the trends and styles and look beyond to what has never changed. Therefore, we often find our inspiration in the ancient and in archetypes: the dark cave, the solitary hut in the mountain side, the canyon, the courtyard... the folded paper plane. Things that are renitent to change fascinate us more. In an age of multinational 100-person design firms, we find ourselves resisting growth, wanting to slow down...in the full knowledge that a building finished before time is complimented on the day of the inauguration, but a thoughtful design, constructed with patience and care, will be a joy forever.
