Winners Declared This international competition, which attracted as many as 130 entries from various countries, was an important one for the entire subcontinent. As it was for the two original partners of SGA who graduated from this premier design institute with its history rooted in the pre-partition period. The competition site offered unique constraints and opportunities, being on the edge of the undulating Ridge Zone of the city (though excluded from the "Notified Forest" designation), it sits in a highly sensitive ecological corridor with an interesting neighbouring ensemble of the five star Grand Hotel on the east, high end plotted developments to the south, institutional buildings and the bio-diversity park to the north-northwest. The entries for the campus development were required to provide: - An Urban Design Strategy including System Design of all constituent parts covering each aspect of built and open environments. - The relationship between the campus and its surroundings as also with the larger city network. - A comprehensive set of development guidelines and controls for the architectural projects. - Innovation in technology and communication. - Sustainability in the built environment.

New Campus for School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi

SGA's Second Prize winning entry for the New School of Planning and Architecture focuses on a 'realm of places'

Three basic design attitudes concerning the geology, the history and the city, have shaped the proposal that desires to create a realm of ‘places’ than the abstract geometrical configurations. The gorge, an outcome of now illegal quarrying on the ridge, becomes the soul of the campus. As designers, S. Ghosh & Associates, much like the historic cavemen, continue a long-standing tradition of building in spaces offered and residued by nature.
