NBCC adopts design for 235m tall tower in New Delhi
The tallest structure in New Delhi needed to be designed well even though its purpose was mainly a technical function. S. Ghosh & Associates along with architect Vasant Kamath designed a TV Tower that was elegantly proportioned to house not only the equipment and functional areas required for the functioning of the Television tower but also a revolving restaurant space to observe the city from. Unfortunately, the restaurant was not built due to security concerns.
The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) approached S.Ghosh & Associates to develop a design for the tallest structure in the city, a 235m tall television broadcasting tower in one of the biggest commercial/business districts of New Delhi. Netaji Subhash Place is now one of the main local tourist spots in the city. S. Ghosh & Associates created a beautifully proportioned and crafted reinforced concrete structure replete with an equally resolved base that was developed by architect Vasant Kamath. A proposed revolving restaurant and the landscaping scheme around where finally not built due to security concerns. DDA also made some unfortunate modifications to the final built form that undermined the overall design.
